Default Catalytic converter

If the check light engine comes on and you get code P0420 Catalyst efficiency below threshold Bank 1, does that mean that you need to replace the Catalytic converter? I know obvious answer....I replced the plugs and O2 sensors and it has 148,000 miles on it. Any ideas??
Thanks
john

At your mileage replace them both at your local muffler shop. You didn't mention, have you replaced your plug wires?

Thank you
I have replaced the plug wires about 40,000 miles ago. None of the local muffler shops will put in a catalytic converter (universal type) and two of them Midas and Monroe couldnt even find the Y Pipe through their suppliers with the two already on it. So I figured I could order the complete Y pipe with the two cats online and will just put it in. maybe it is a function of my geographical location...

At the rate your car's going, you should really change both. Well, here, try looking up at this catalytic converter site for replacements.
