It can be done (I have no cats, 02 sensors, carbon canister), but you have to adjust your ECU - I posted a quote from the Workshop Manual a few months back on the color of resistor that has to go on the ECU depending on the existence of cats in the system...

It is possible, but if you live some place where they do emission testing you'll fail without them. Some places just do a visual so if you remove them you'll fail, but if they only do a visual test you can gut them and leave the shells there so it passes

was running catless for 2 year on my old RRC. Seem to have balled up inside and blocked the passage. I took the innerts out ran fine for 2 years but had to put a single cat where the 1rst resonator was located to make it pass California SMOG .. passed with flying colors..
