Well guys, the day approaches...
I set up an appointment with one of the shops I do business with. The gentleman, by the name of Boris, will be taking a look at the truck and helping me figure out a design of the cage and a design for the rear door window frames. I didnt think I'd actually be doing it but I ACTUALLY am! It's surreal! Will definately be keeping you guys updated!

My cage is going to be VERY similar to the rear of this famous red one...Its function will mainly be to hold the soft top up...in other words, no guarantee that it will actually protect me in a roll over, but im going to try to get it as strong as money and time allows....
I'm thinking about doing something similar to J**ps with the window frames in the rear. Maybe have something that snaps on and off. Still not sure, but I definately want my soft top to take the same shape of the one below once its on.

yeah down here, as long as the bottom of your bumper isnt more than 36" off the ground and your tires dont stick out more than 3" out of your fenders, anything goes, and even with those restrictions, people still do what they want...cops down here are too busy crakin down on drug dealers and all sorts of COPs-like stuff. cross into Broward county, however, and thats a whole different story...those guys will whip out the measuring tape (no lie).

You can see it haulin' a camper away from the "Pikers" campsite scene.Anyways... JC, that would be....no, no...will be awesome if...no, no...when you get your rig to look like that!!! ![]() I too, since I am an obsessor about Land Rovers, wanted to chop the truck and make it hard core off road trendy like that red D1. But I come to realize I think I would piss my parent's off, as they wanna see it original. ![]() Should be cool man!! ![]()

LOL...my MOM hates the idea and my dad thinks im nuts.
I'm not even as hard core as SCSL or anything, not yet atleast...but im getting there (my truck sees action every week and even on weekdays after work.) I'm really doing it cuz im eliminating 11 headaches!..thats right! 11!!! My disco can double as an aquarium because of all those windows! Its in the water a whole lot too!. Also, I only have one speed on my AC...unfortunately its speed 1..lol...so on hot days, its not even worth turning the air on, and i just put my windows down...now thats when my windows (rear and sunroofs) decide to work. and when they do, since my headliner is saggin, I get those little specs of crap flyin into my eyes. Also, when I go spearfishing, the fish smell stays in there even if i drive with the windows open. When it rains, water comes in from SOMEWHERE...not the roof rack holes and not the sunroof (i syliconed it!)...while youre driving, when taking turns the water will come from the top console, wet everything, including your passengers. Then the water that has accumulated in the carpet will create an intense heat when it becomes water vapor. You get hit the the chest with this heat when the door is opened. not to mention that funky humid smell. So if you can try to imagine yourself in my truck, you can see why i've postoned some maintanence (exhaust and clearing codes) to get this project done! My roof is the bitchiest of D1 roofs..lol

One advantage, before I have the Roof Rack welded onto the cage, is weight. The truck SHOULD have lost a few pounds by the end of the project. This should mean better performance in the mud!

if it looks anything like the red one it's going to be sick. Also you should rhino-line your entire interior tub for protection and making it waterproof since you live in mud and water capitol of the US. Have you lifted the disco yet?

That's what im doin..hehe...LineX makes their liners in any color, so its goin in Tan and I'll have the rubber floor mats in place so that it doesnt look too naked. The lift will go on after this project is done. Scorpion Racing 2.5" Lift. Yeah I do want it to look like the red ones. I want the soft top to stretch over the cage making the three main bars visable instead of the top layin flat on the cage. Like so...
