Default crankshaft rear oil seal

I’m changing crankshaft rear oil seal in a 3.9L 95 Disco

#3 of the removal procedure says “remove oil seal from location” without damage to any other surfaces. Well the seal is old and it want come out!

Any one knows any tricks???

It is easier to drop the sump and loosen/remove the rear bearing cap. This will allow free access to get the old one out and to make sure that the new one goes in properly.

Not sure what you mean by Cross Seals. I found trying to bang the seal in without undoing the bearing has a high risk of damaging the seal and it not going in straight. It is a mongrel of a job in the first place without having to do it a second time.
