I have a 96 D1 with 110k. I have noticed recently when I have a cross wind or even light wind I get this vibration mostly in the front. I have recently replaced all of the rotors, and repacked the bearings, and changed all of the shocks, and steering damper( OME ). I am wondering if this is either front drive shaft, pre-load on swivel balls, or tie-rod ends
.......oh maybe even panhard???? just remembered that. Anyway, ideas are welcome!

Are you driving with the cross bars on the roof rack installed?
I noticed that the cross bars on the roof rack on my 96 vibrate a bit when the wind hits them the wrong way. The noise was very hard to pinpoint. I took them off and no vibs since. Ed H |

When was the last time you balanced your tires? Perhaps a weight came off? Also, check the tire pressure.

Tire pressure ok, I could use a re-balanceing, but I use the stick-on weights, there is no evidence that they have come off, but that doesn't mean much. I forgot to mention above that I have a 1.5 inch spacer lift on my truck and 255/70/16 tires. I know this does some weird things to your truck, but this seems to be a gradual thing. Only comming from the front as well I feel it in the steering wheel, and in the Transmission, you can see the shifter shake too. When there is no wind it feels ok. Anyway, tires will be rebalanced soon. THANKS!

1-1/2" shouldn't cause any vibrations, however, each rover is different. I have 2" on mine with no issues. I get vibrations when I have the tires inflated too high and they warm up on a hot day and a lot of travelling. The tire says to inflate between 50 and 55 lbs - I have found that 45 works best for the tire I am running.

I am really thinking front U-Joints too. It feels like they are stuck, even though I have greased them in the past, doesn't mean that they are good! If there is still vibrations after the tires are re-balanced I am going to look at that.
