Let me start by saying that I have viewed several threads about cruise control but still having an issue finding the problem. My cruise did work but then it would rarley work and would than stop in the middle of driving. Now it is a no go. I was under the hood and noticed that one of the hoses from was off of the t-adapter and split. I cut it and placed it back on. All the hoses look good. Still does not work. The cruise control light and button seems fine that is found below the A/C controls on the front panel. The little green light on the dashboard will not light up whewn I try and engage the cruise control. I can hear the set button click when I pull it. When the brake is pressed I can hear a click noise. Also, the fuses are good.
I need to know what additional steps need to be taken. How would I know if the valve or connector to the brake is the issue or if it is the ECU? |

There's a vacuum line that goes from the "T" into the firewall, which ends up at the cruise control switch by the brake pedal. Might be vacuum line is undone or split on that end, or the switch is bad, or loose.

I had similar problems with my Cruise when I first got my Disco. Well sort of similar mine never worked. I ended up fixing all the vacuum lines I found 3 cracked ends. But still nothing I even pulled out the pump which is located under the jack storage area in the drivers front. But to avail. Finally I had a totally unrelated issue with my break light switch and I found out about the self adjusting switches the newer rovers use. So I decided to reset my cruise switch at the same time I was doing my brake light one and it's worked ever since. Turns out it just was not pushing the button in far enough.
As for the clicking your hear that is most likely your break light switch. If you take off the bottom cover and stick your head under there with a light you'll see there are two switches mounted. If I remember correctly the bottom one is the brake and the top one is the cruise it also has a vacuum line attached to it so you can check for cracks as well. If you have never reset one of the switches all you do is push down on the brake pedal and then pull out on the switch and it will ratchet out. then slowly let up on the brake pedal and it will push it back in to the correct setting. If that still does not work try taking it out and checking it with a multi meter to see if it's functional.

Thank you for the advice. I all the lines look good. I check the switch connected to the brake pedal, removed it and it seems to be fine. On one of the posts someone stated that if the cruise control set loight does not come on(located under the RPM meter) the cruise will not set. I saw that light work for something esle yesterday. How would I know if my ECU is shot?

A lot of cruise control problems are cause by the electronic ecu (Steuergerät). See www.remanufactor.com or cruisecontrol.remanufactor.com
