Some of you guys maybe caught my thread in the wheels/tires forum where I noted that I ordered some new tires. I ordered up some Dayton Timberline M/T 245/75/16 for my '99 DI. They should be here around the later part of March. To make sure they fit, I took your guys' notes and cut the lower portion of my front bumper cover. I might cut a little more yet, but I'm not positive on that yet. I cut most everything with a jigsaw, except the three bolts in the center which I just wrenched out. Anyways, here's the pics:

Looks good James. You seem to have the infamous "disco lean." Time for new springs/shocks next! By the way, just perused your websites...pretty cool stuff man!

Welcome to the cut bumper club. I wish I could fit my disco in the garage.

i took the same approach as 300, although i think the cap trimming looks a lot cleaner/nicer. but on my truck, and apperently his, clean is not the look either ne of us is going for.

![]() Yeah the tyres are Simex Jungle Trekkers 2 33.11.50R15 on 15x8 steel 8 spokes with 1" aluminium wheel spacers. They are pretty good tyres, a b*tch to balance but actually ride pretty good and will crusie at 70-80mph no problem. If you have to do an emergency stop in the wet you do notice they don't grip the tarmac quite as well, but on the whole they are safe and comfortable. I used them as a daily driver not long back and was covering over 400 miles a week. Off road is where they really shine, especially in the mud you would not beleive how much better they are over regular mud terains like Goodyear or BFG. They really hold the ground well. Not too sure about rock crawling (not much of that kind of off roading in the UK). I have heard from someone else that they did eventually tear up on the rocks but they did use them for several years or extreme off roading. |
