I have a Bosch 4.6 that I am putting into the hole in my Discovery where a GEMS 4.0 sat for the past 8 years. I know about using the 4.0 flywheel and swapping the flywheel position sensor and bracket and I plan on using the 4.0 plenum, injectors, etc. I also realize I need to swap the one timing gear.
The questions are, is the timing gear sensor, the one in the middle of the front cover, the same on the 4.0 and the 4.6 or does that need to be swapped when I put in the 4.0 gear? Also I know if I was swapping from a 3.9 I’d need to reuse the whole front timing cover do I have to do this with the 4.0 GEMS to 4.6 Bosch swap? If the answer is yes why? I have the 4.6 cover, but my 4.0 one is dinged so if I could modify the 4.6 one I’d rather use it with the engine it came on. Thanks. |
