Default Disco 03 Brakes/NJ Indy Shop

Hello. I have been lurking here for a while enjoying the discussion and getting tons of info, thank you. My Disco went in for its 30k service today and I received a call that I need rear brakes immediately and front brakes in the next 5k miles.

My first question is, does anyone know of a LR indy shop in New Jersey they would recommend? Second, is this a job I can do myself? I am a weekend mechanic, but never on a LR, additionally is there somewhere I could get instructions for this? Third, what rotors and pads are recommended? I would like cross drilled rotors and/or slotted but my main concern is throwing an ABS code which of course the dealer will not correct it? Squeaking brakes are also a concern. My original brakes have done this and it is a bit annoying.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Ian,

Vinnie at the Import Specialist is a good LR mechanic (Route 17 in Paramus, close to the dealer).

You can certainly do the brake pads yourself, the rotors will require a bit more work. If you are considering cross drileld then I would look into the DBA rotors.

Where in NJ are you?

Heks yess on the DBA. I was lookin into those. I wanted Brembos but those are vented, and we all know that vented rotors don't really like mud. DBA are perfect! As soon as my bank account returns to "i-can-breath-again" status I'll be buyin a front set.

Thanks for the advice. I just got back from Import Specialist, only needed to change the rear pads. Contrary to the dealer, Vinnie said the rotors should be good through this new set of pads also. Great guy and shop, thanks again.
