Default Disco coil springs

The coil springs of my Disco is a little tired, I would like to replace them but I cannot make up my mind on what I should replace it with, I like OME coils but they are pricey and I have read that some people feel the OME does not give you great wheel travel, is this true and if so what other options do I have? Will Land Rover HD coils also give a lift?
What do you recommend?

I have used OME in the past and have found them to be Very reliable and last as long as if not longer than anything else.I have had fantastic wheel travel and have never come accross any issues. You should check out the Scorpion racing equipment on The 4x4 gear site or Rovers north web site. Lots of stuff.

First decide on what you want to accomplish (fit taller tires, more articulation, carry heavy loads etc) then go from there.

I concur

D2 + OME779(front) + OME763(rear) = Happy Camper

Here in the US if you want wheel travel go with anything but OME, get the Bearmach (Big Blues) if you want cheap. They won't last as long as other springs but they will give you a true 2.5" or 3" lift, OME does not. Plus the OMEs are stiff as heck. I've tried them all and I did not like the OMEs. Right now I'm running our own brand of springs and I like them. You might want to consider having a set made.

FWIW. I run HD springs, and you will get an extra 1" or more lift. I'm very happy with them.

The only modifications on the Disco are trimmed front bumper and A/T tires, so I still have a long way to go . At present I do a lot of off-road playing (2-3 per week), I would like to fit bigger wheels and a custom bulbar in the future, but the wheels I have on is still new.
I live in South-Africa and the big brands here are XGS suspension from TJM, Bilstein, Formula 4x4, and OME. Does anyone have experience of this other brands?

jaco just a thought mate in regards to your coil springs.
I was wondering what makes you think your coils are tired.
has the ride height of your vehical altered or is it sagging from when you purchased the vehical?.
If not you probably only need to replace your shocks which will save you dollars.
As for raising the vehicals ride height there are a couple of things you must consider.
raising the vehical does not increase your ground clearence as your diffs are still at the same height. If you do a lot of river crossings it is an advantage but 1 or 2 inches may mean you get no water in your vehical but a big rock will stop you just the same.
A disadvantage is if you travell on any slopes side ways your centre of gravity is higher and you will be more prone to a roll over.i find that urban cowboys that never do any serious off roading love the lift kits lets face they look tough
hope i havent upset any 1 with this reply
have a good 1 brighty

The shocks I have on has traveled only 10 000km or so, the reason I think the coil is tired because the vehicle is visibly sagging on the front. Someone suggested to me that I must replace the coils with the originals and save up money for a diff-lock at the back?

hey jaco sounds like good advice but i am still curiouse as all disco's look to have a slight lean toward the front that does not mean the springs are shot.
May be good idea to see a reputable spring works and find out once and for all.
If you do replace coils do all 4 as if the fronts are shot the backs will be to but this you might not notice till you have a heavy load or are towing.
good luck mate brighty

I had the coils checked out at the local 4x4 fitment centre. I was told that the front end is almost 3cm (just more than inch) lower than it's suppose to be and the coils at the back seems to be ok.

Default ome

I have just fitted ome springs to my d1 ome761 on the front and ome762 on the back also fitted new shocks ome n115 on front and n44 on rear and also ome steering stabiliser. Have unfortunately not taken it offroad yet but just did 9600klms in 21 days on the road and a few dirt tracks and it handled great, may be a little bit stiffer than I expected and also raised it more than I was told to expect 65mm at the front and 55mm at rear but happy with the difference. Before they were fitted I was told that the suspension is slightly different height on each side to allow for the fact there is always a driver mine being rhd was higher on the r/h side. As brighty said my only concern with the new height is the higher center of gravity when side on a hill. Fingers crossed.
