Was merely posting something I saw in regards to Neapco u-joints. Was wondering if anyone else had problems with Neapco u-joints? I would assume the caps were the part that mic'd smaller than stock but am unsure.

From Spicer and Neapco catalogs.
5-4x ---- BEARING CAP DIA. --- 1.0630 1-0005 - BD ---------------------- 1.063 No matter what u-joint you mention, you'll always have someone who's had a problem. There quite a few variables in u-joint installation that affect longevity. For instance, the person who had one installed in Oct may have erroneously assumed the grease that came in them was fine and he didn't need to flush it out with proper grease for in use service. A snap ring may not have been properly seated. A needle bearing may have been lost during installation. Just a few possibilites.

![]() As for the Spicers, check your local driveline shops, they should have them in stock. Like antichrist said though the manufacturing has been farmed out to (?). ![]()

I don't have the OEM dimensional data, but I'd be very surprised if they are larger than spicer/neapco/precision u-joints, since all three mfg list their respective u-joints as fitting the Land Rover application.

![]() They were bought at his shop and returned at his shop, and he also took the time to remove both joints(free of charge), so he wasn't making any money by sending me away. The 3 joints listed above are of 3 seperate and different designs for the same application. Not trying to start any conspiracy theories or arguements, just sharing my personnal experiance.

Hmmm...well, I have a DII front shaft here to rebuild, guess I'll do some measuring when I tear it down.
FWIW, I have rebuilt them with Neapco u-joints (as well as with Precision), and if they were "significantly" smaller, they wouldn't have fit properly (ie. needing to be pressed in), which they did. I don't have the old caps, but the next one I rebuild I'll mic them.

Yeah, I'd be curious to find out the measures. The Neapcos barely fit as is. Can't imagine how they would fit at all if much bigger.

Badger, now that I think about it, are you talking about the bearing cap diameter, or the cap to cap dimension?
