Default discovery shudder

hello all looking fo a little help with my rover, ive got a 94 disco 300tdi motor 4 inch lift 220k kms. recently ive got a serious shudder when driving at speeds from 45kph to 60 kph and still present after 60 slightly . it happens at all engine rpm and seems to be speed dependent, engine off rolling down hill the shudder is slighter but still there. so far i have checked the following, all wheels balanced, "donut" replaced , handbrake shoes cleaned and adjusted to rule out brake shoe drag, front swivel hubs rebuild and all wheel bearings renewed at all corners. visual inspection of propellor shafts shows no sign of throwing balance weights. any help will be much appreciated as my teeth are sure to rattle out soon......

Have you checked the front output bearing in the transfer case? Try taking the front shaft out and driving it with the CDL locked and see if the shudder is still there. If it is put the front shaft back in and remove the rear and try it. While you have the shafts out look for a bad U joint, probably have one binding up.

Not a Rover but one of my off-roaders developed a shudder in the rear end at speeds over about 45mph. After failing to find the cause I was about to take it to the shop so they could look it over. I like to clean the vehicle before taking it in (on the premise that if it looks like you care for it, they will too) and in the process discovered some dried mud that had accumulated inside the backspace of one rear wheel.... a high pressure water hose solved the shudder.

Why would you even consider buying from a dealer and paying insane prices for parts? NAPA and a number of other parts places sell the Precision brand, the Rover takes a #344 in both shafts. I think they were about $8 each last time I got some.

That's crazy, I paid $8.53 each on 5/19/08! Guess I should have stocked up then.

had the same problem on my 95 Disco. Just ended up being a bad U-Joint in the rear prop shaft!
AutoZone had the part for about $10 each.

I'm seeing a lot of Napa parts in small print, "Made in China.
Autohausaz in Az. has good prices, OEM parts and way below dealers as well free shipping on orders over $50.
I ripped out two dounuts plus had vibrations until I caught a sale on a new rear driveshaft with a real steel X cross rear diff U joint. Front transfer case bearing is a known vibration place also, grab the yoke and check for loose bearing play, there is a better bearing with more balls that will fit.
