E-Brake Handel

Ok, this may sound simple, but I wouldn't be here if I wasn't thoroughly confused. So I have 2 1995 Discovery 1's, and they both have the exact same problem. When I first got them, the e-brake handle worked fine. But I removed the center console to gain access to the transmission tunnel, and had to remove the e-brake cable. No big deal. When I went and put the center console back together, the e-brake would not lock into place. I made sure that the teeth were making contact with the locking mechanism, and sure enough it is. You push on it, and you can get it to lock, but once you push the button, it seems to jam into place, and won't release to re-lock. I thought it was just a bad handle on the first one, but the second time makes no sense to me. I do need a e-brake on that one because it's a 5 speed. I've searched the internet to no prevail, so any help would be appreciated. I know my descriptions are very helpful and all, so I'll try to get some pics, or a video up tomorrow to try and explain what the heck is going on.

I had a similar situation with my '97 Disco. I removed the handle to see what was causing the binding. Turns out a little bit of prying on the bottom of the handle and a bit of silicone spray made it work like new. That was a year ago and it still works like new.

I did remove the assembly, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I did try some wd40 but that didn't really help. It's just weird that it would happen twice even though they were perfectly operational before. Thanks anyways.

Mine didn't look like anything was wrong with it either. But I got it working properly with no binding.

Have you removed the parking brake handle from the vehicle or are you trying to do all this while it is still on the vehicle?

its still on the ehicle, it just seem s odd that it would work fine until you disconnect the cable then re-attach the cable and suddenly it feels like it is all bound up. I can see the pivot point of the catch pretty good and it does not seem to bee binding or rubbing, it really feels like the problem is up in the return spring

The rod going from the flipper tooth to the button gets bent - "just" straighten it out

Tis true. But you need to remove the handle from the vehicle to do it.
