Default Engine Cut Off?

Hey guys... been gone for two months...up in maine for the summer..managed to find local internet access.... My mother decided tht she would drive the Rover ..on the way back she said it started to over heat..she turned the heat on full blast but did not pull over which kinda upset me..anyways she was only like 2 miles from home...she made it to the entrance of the driveway where it shut off..... my question...is the computer programed to shut off if it gets to hot or did something fry...

O the bottom hose from the radiator busted to bits.... sooo all the fluid leaked out

NO!, You have problems, can't say what, but the computer didn't shut you down.
Need to look at the engine for possible overheat damage.

x2, yeah all that overheat can cause the metals in the engine to warp, and move in ways it was not meant to be.

Does the motor still start and run after that shut off?

When you get a chance, have a shop do one or both coolants tests to see if there is a problem, both chemical and sniffer if needed.
If it is OK, then make sure there is no air left trapped in the engine and do any engine flush to help det rid of any excess sludge and burned oil.
Good luck,
Mike

It's a way to reduce the water temp in the engine- using the heater core like a little mini-radiator.

Cool beans man! Glad to see that motor still runs.

I bet it had to be a relief to hear it run fine.
