Default Everythings shutting down... HELP...

Just died on the side of the road with my 97 Disco. I jumped it and was able to go 4 miles when all the gauges and lights stopped working and then the engine quit.

I checked the serpentine belt and all looks good. I am thinking it's the alltinator. Any other ideas on where to look?

Sounds like either alternator or a dead battery.. the jump may have charged it, but it couldn't keep the charge. You can pull the alternator and bring it to like an Autozone and they'll test it for free.

Why take it out to check it? Stick a meter on the battery while its shut off, record the voltage... Start the car... If it doesn't increase (Ideally 13-14.5 Volts) then its junk.

Don't have a meter? Spend the 3 bucks.

Why would we be thinking it's the battery? If the battery has dead cells then once it's jumped wouldnt the altinator take over?

Then, when I shut it down it wouldnt start again due to the dead battery.

Am I wrong about this? The rover is shutting down while driving/running. All gauges stop functioning and the lights dim and then go out along with complete electrical shutdown of everything.

batteries die after a while or the bad alternator kills them.
