So my next set of repairs and replacements will be to the exhaust. Anyone know where I can get a Stainless Steel Y-pipe? Or should I just get the aftermarket cats and have them welded into the existing Y-pipe? Obviously the price difference is great, but my truck sees lots of water, and the current pipes aren't looking too good. I would rather just switch the whole thing out. As always, all help is greatly appreciated.

Don't plan on getting in that much water but makes sense to pay more for something to withstand the oxidation. My question is about removing the muffler at the end of the tailpipe. Will this interfere with the engine in any way. These LRS are mighty tricky and may react to any minor thing done to them. I wanted to cut the end muffler off since it has rusted through and get midas to install two pipes out the back or do it myself. What do you think. Will it make too much noise? Will it run with this modification?

It shouldn't be a problem. If you're going to do any offroading, that'll be two end pipes you'll have to worry about bashing. If not, then you should be fine.

Soooooooo. You think I would be just as well off to leave the rusted out muffler on and save the funds in trying to make it look a little better (which is not necessary). Wonder if I should replace the stock muffler with a new one. How much noise would you expect to get out of this system if I just cut the pipe in back of the muffler and let it rip? I am a little afraid of having a lot of exhaust get up inside the vehicle not to mention the racket (term used in Alabama for noise).

lol...well, alot of guys cut the rear muffler out anyway. You can replace your existing rear pipe with an NRP Stainless one.

NRP also offers a stainless Y pipe with their performance cats. Rovers North has the set up. Alternatively, find a good hot rod shop and ask them who does their exhausts. You can probably get a custom system for less done locally. That's what I did.

Cutting off the rear muffler, gives the truck a really nice mellow sound that is not offensive and is usually noticed in the lower RPM range, at 35MPH and higher you won't hear any difference. I did it to my truck 3 years ago to add some clearance after installing and new rear bumper and it looks and sounds great.

I went with a ICMO performance exhaust (Flow master) style with 3" pipe out the back stopping short of the bumper, it is a real nice throatie sound and my milage has gotten a tick better. In all about $240.00
I think it was well worth it. ![]() |
