Default "Fiddle Brakes" (AKA Cutting Brakes)

Hi All,

I'm fascinated by the idea of being able to "lock-up" - using my standard calipers my spinning wheel to send the drive to the wheel that still has grip.

Has anyone any experience of these systems?

I know a lot of trialers use them - but they seem to use them to decrease their turning circle...

..I want to use them intstead of locking diffs.

Looking forward to hearing from you...

Cheers, Mark HH

Fiddle brakes are a great idea, however the are not permitted if you ever plan to par-take in any ALRC (ARC) events.

Probably best to check out the 'all wheel drive club' I bet there are some using them.

However if using fiddle brakes purley for traction basis would be hard work as you'd have to be able to know wwhich wheel is spinning and you'd loose one hand while operating them.

The Land Rover traction control system on latter Discovery's and TD5 90's is essentially using this basic concept.

Some ARB air-lockers might be an easier and cheaper route to go though.
