Default Front Carpets and Sound Deadening

Hi All

Can anyone tell me how to best remove the front carpets and sound deadening from my 1998 auto trans V8 S.1 Disco? Do I need to remove the centre console, etc? Are both sides one in the same piece??

I have had water leak from my air con - now fixed I hope!! - but need to remove the carpets and sound deadening to dry it.

Thanks

Regards

Ray

Just do what I did, use a blow dryer (carefully). Much easier than taking all that out. You can remove the trim piece on the door sil, which allows you to pull the carpet up enough to blow air underneath and dry it.

If you want to remove the sound deading for good this is what I did, left the carpet though just peeled it back while doing this.
Pull the trim piece from the door sills and remove the trim pieces that surround the seats. If you want to remove the entire pad then yes you will have to remove the center console as well. What I did was to cut along the trans tunnel from the fire wall to the seats with a razor. Now be carefull if you do this because there is are a few wiring looms that also run along there, so all you really need to do is cut right above or below these wires. The foam must have been put in before the seats so having a razor under there will also come in handy, but once again there are a few wires so be carefull! Easy job and you will never have to worry about soaked sound proofing again, you floor boards will thank you.

Oh, if your wondering if the truck is hotter/colder, or noisier without that in there. I haven't noticed much difference if any at all.

If you are just looking to dry out the floorboards, try out jhmovers cure, sounds like it would work pretty well.

When I dried my cargo area, I used wood blocks to lift everything. Placed a small fan on the rear bumper and switched it on. An hour later all was dry.

Since they are going to get wet again (eventually) you can stick some Pelican dessicant gel under the carpet to try and keep it dry. otherwise, do what Badger mentioned and leave the section over the tunnel. That's exactly what I did but I herculined my floors.

Though a bit more pricey, the "Tuff Stuff" from Rhino Liner is also a great alternative. I just had the cargo area done. Next, I'll do the front half. A word of advise: whatever you do, take the time to remove seats and paneling to get as thorough a drying / coating as possible - it's worth it.

Cheers,
