Default G`Day From Japan

Just joined the site after Getting myself a 1997 Disco. I have wanted a Land Rover for about 8 Years now and who would think that I had to come all the way to Japan to get one.
I actually Export used cars from Japan so could have my pick at any kind of car as a drive car but went for the Disco. Actually wanted a Defender but the wife was not on board with that just yet.
Well anyway just wanted to say Hi and look forward to getting on the Forums and learning as I go.
Any Ideas on what to look out for or what to expect from my Disco would be great. She has only done 69Km and is a V8. Will post pics of her travels around Japan as we go

Hey, grats on the purchase and welcome to the forums!

As far as problems and stuff you should look for, one of the DI guys will have to tune in for that. Wasnt '97 the first year where LR switched from Lucas to Bosch? ....if you....you should be very very happy....if not....neal down and pray to the Lucas gods, for you do not want to make them angry

Welcome to the board! Do you have the service records from the previous owner?

Default Thanks for the Welcome

I actually got the Disco at work. there are over 80,000 Cars a week that go through Auctions here in Japan and I had been looking around for a while. There are no Log Books or Manuals with the car ( But did get a extra set of Alloys)
Oh the one thing I was going to ask was What is a good oil to use. I am in the process of changine over all the fluids and was wondering what the Xperts use
Cheers

Engine oil I use Castrol 20w-50 Synthetic Blend substituting a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I also use the long K&N oil filter (part #3001).

Castrol 10-40 for the motor and Lucas 80/90 for the diffs. and Xfer case. Post up some pics when you get them. Also might want to put in some new plugs and wires, just for good measure.

Land rover says use castrol synthetic blend 5w30.

Being in Japan, I do know Japanese vehicles have a few different things then in the UK and such. A few alarm and Liting arrangements and such. I dont know all the differences i just see the parts of diagrams that say Japan only and such.

I do know your vehicle steering column is on the other side of the vehicle. Not sure exactly how that will differ though.

I'm not a mechanic or anything but I believe that means you sit on the other side too. I know, I know, I'm going now...

Hello!!
You missed 1 thing!! Is it a V8i or a 300Tdi?????

If it is a Tdi, dont put ANY of those oils in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Power steer pump WILL leak, so will all the flexible lines including trans cooler. Take it from me I have had 3 out of Japan!! Also, if it is diesel, GET THE TIMING BELT CHANGED!!!!!!!!!! If it goes so will your wallet!

My brother and I IMPORT euro cars from Japan!!!

Happy days!!
