Default gas pump? won't start..

Hello everybody! I am new to this forum.
I'd like to consult your knoledgeable advice...
I have a Disco 1998; its been running nice for the past 6 months.since I own it.
suddendly the enging would shut off while driving;then it woult take a while to start up again. I replaced the fuel filter; It turned on once but went off again.now It wont start. It cranks, but wont start I put a new battery added fuel injection conditining treatment to fuel tank. but won't start.
When i turn the swicht to the on position ; I don;t hear the pump noise; I only hear something on the passanger side.
I called to find out about the fuel pump price; but they told me it could be a number of things.
Is there anything I could do on my own to try to locate the problem
( diagnostic)?
Thanks for Help.

You should hear it turn on when you turn over the engine (Key in the second slot). It is a buzzing noise, that is short ~~roughly 15 seconds long. If the truck is stopping while driving, I would check the VSS.

Let me do some searching and I can find my fuel pump supplier. He had them for about 90.00 plus shipping.

Thanks! for your reply.
I did check the fuses; they are ok.on the car manual fuse #5 (fuel Pump)
is listed as 5 amps; mine has a 15 amps on that slot I tried replacing it for a 5 Amp, and it blew off; so I put back the 15 amp.
once a mechanic showed me; on my brother's 97 Disco; his car, wouln't start with a fuse higher than 5 amp. on that particular slot.
I'd like to check the relay; if I know where it is;
and maybe the fuel pressure regulator..Do I need special tools?
these are thing i've read on similar cases at the forums.
I am ordering the repair manual CD with all the diagrams.
On my local Land Rover dealer the next available appointment for a diagnostic is on Oct 18.
maybe I could learn some in the meantime.
Regards!

Thanks for your generous response!
If I knew where the relay is; I could temporarily swap it with my brother's Disco/97 to see if it works. or if it does anything different;like I noticed when I turn the key on his car there is a brief sound maybe coming from the pump.
I'll wait for the diagrams.
After I replaced the fuel filter is not longer starting up; only once and it abruptly shutted off; maybe it used up all the fuel that was still on the line.
I read about getting a fuel gauge to mesure fuel pressure , and a scanner to read the error codes; these are tools that I eventually will need to get.
I am still looking for a reputable LR mechanic shop in my area; but it definately
helps to know how to narrow in a diagnostic.
regards!

Your CD mailed out this morning. I believe the relay is located near the pump, it has been so long since I changed mine out I am having a hard time recalling where it is. If I were you, I would swap out the whole fuel pump if possible. If you pull up the back carpet, there is a round gold looking cover. Located there is the fuel pump itself. Pop off the screws, and you will see it. You should be able to hear the relay turning off and on once you pull the carpet back.

Do you hear the buzz noise? How many miles?

Finally I had somebody to work on the car.
We tested the spark , and was OK; there was not fuel pressure on the rail.
Then ater opening the pump cover; We were able to start it with help of spray for combustion. the mechanic checked for current coming in to the contacts at the fuel pump, while I turned the key to the ignite position.
He then bridged a wire from the battery to bring direct current to the pump; and started the buzzing noise right away. The car started real easy. The pump is working fine.the fuel pressure was reading 30.
He tells me it is the relay (YWb 10041 C) integrated module relay for the pump. it is a black square sealed module that rests next to the fuses box on the engine.
I called the dealer they can get it for tuesday $126.00.

I am happy to know that's all so far.
Thanks a lot for your support.

Was wondering how many miles did the Rover have and if anyone knows about what ballpark do the fuel-pumps go bye bye. My Disco has about 110k right now and I remember my RRC's fuel pump failed at about 120k something ..

My Disco has 130K miles; when I lifted the carpet on the cargo to access the pump look pretty clean. (pristine).I don't think it has been worked on before.
The Pump relay: part #YWB 100820 L.
Do you know any good place for Rover parts?
