Any advise on the 4x4 gear shift, mine has gone all loose as in not selecting. Been like this for some time but never gave it any attention. Seems to be in 4 wheel drive all the time too but no lights on, on the dash & drives perfect (explains why iv never got stuck...LMAO...). Question is, is there a cable or is it directly located into the box and how easy are they to sort out as in what do I have to take apart to fix it... It is a 1993 3.5V8i auto. BIG thanks in advance, Craig.

I can't remember what the linkage is like, but I think it may be a cable and you need to drop the box down to get easy access to it.
BTW - ALL Land Rover vehicle's since the Range Rover (1970's) and County 90 (early 1980's) have been perminant 4wd. You can not have 2wd at all. I'm sure there's some info on the net, else somethink like a Hanes workshop manual may be handy. If you have a 3.5 EFI then it should have hi and low range as an option, some used a viscous centre diff while I think some used the more convential diff lock operable via the same lever as the transfer box. |

Should be a solid linkage as I don't think the cables came into play until the later D2s(could be wrong though). Yes your LR has full time 4wd, but did you mean the center diff is always engaged? Try pulling the center console and you'll see a plate around the 4wd selector held on with rivets. Drill out the rivets and you'll be able to access the linkage. Probably just loose after years of use.....hopefully that's it!
