I'm makeing a trip that take's me very near( 5mile's) to Atlantic British so I'm figuring on a stop for parts the first thing I need is rear caliper's rear brakes dont seem to be doing any thing rotor's are rusty and the pad's look unworn are the caliper's they sell OEM or not? Another thing would be a EBC Performance Brake Kit just for the rear if I can as I use my rover to tow now and again I would like the best brakes possible, I might pick up a power steering hose kit is it worth it to replace leaky power steering hose's or just let them be? one more problem is one of my out side door's handle's quit the inside works fine should I replace the
door latch mechanism or could it be something else and last but still very annoying the window in the door with the bad out side handle wont go up all the way with out help it get's to the very top and "skips" untill I push it the last 2 inch's bad regulator or motor drive gear thingy. all parts for my 1996 Discovery

jed,
Don't mess around with the brakes. If the rotors are truly rusty as you say, then the pistons are most likely stuck in the caliper and you're not braking at all...You might want to look into replacing the flex lines above the axle casing if you're going to swap out the calipers anyway...check all of your lines... Dunno about the PS hose, mine leak too, but not enough for me to warrant tearing into that system yet... Where in upstate are you? I'm about 30 minutes south of AB. Bogatyr

The brakes are in need of a caliper repair or the hoses are not functioning.
I just bought one for my Rangie for a total caliper rebuild. Power steering hose leaks make the underside of the truck very nasty. Also power steering fluid is flammable. I've never seen a fire from it but it isn't impossible either. Personally I don't like the drips on my driveway or in my garage. |

Bogatyr, You dont happen to ride horses at a place called rivendell here in clinton corners do you? There is a guy there with a series rover that looks to be in great shape, but I have never had time to ask around as to who the owner of it is. On topic: How bad are your ps lines leaking? It really is a fairly easy job to replace them. I used the kit (3 hoses) from AB and it didnt take long at all to replace them. I have also gotten brakes from AB and never had a problem with the products they sell. I didnt have to do the rear calipers, but replaced the fronts. I agree with taking a look at the lines as well while you are replacing the calipers.

PS hose leakage is not that bad I guess maybe a pint every 3k miles.
I bled the line's so the problem is defanetly in the caliper.

apbtpetey,
Nope, that's not me...I don't venture too far in the series truck these days. Haven't had enough free time to do much of anything recently. Bogatyr
