3.5" lift and 285/75r16 (33") on stock alloys with no trimming here, and I don't think your wheel arches are much different than a RR1. Just use the right bump stops so the tires stuff to maximum without causing damage.

Thor, what is the uncompressed length of your springs? |

Land Rover used bump stops in to limit upward travel... for the size tire they decided was appropriate as they built them. So yes I guess I am limiting upwards movement so I don't have tire to wheel well contact because you can't stuff a 33" tire in a space designed for a 29" tire. However, I gain under diff clearance with the larger tire and with softer springs with 3 dead coils that do stretch a bit, longer and angled rear arms, cranked front arms and no anti-sway bars my axles articulate easier and further away from my wheel well. So essentially with my lift I'm really just moving the range of motion I already had down 3.5" away from the frame and wheel well. I wish I could stuff them as deep as the stock tires but physics says no, as two objects cannot cannot occupy the same space at the same time. I have seen rigs set up like you're thinking. No lift 37" tires and just about riding on the bump stops. I agree... bad idea... except for mall-terrain vehicles. Didn't know that about the D1 rear wheel well, I guess he'll have to trim, I'd guess less than he's thinking if he's considering flares. Uncompressed length. Can't remember. Safari Gard dual rate stage 2 springs.

I wanted stock panels, so my rig looks stock. Think I'm fooling anyone? With the 'narrower' 33" (as opposed to 33x12.5x15) and the stock wheels, and my bumpstops, I have a few mm of space from inner tire sidewall to spring mount and inner wheel well, and outer edge of tread to the top of the wheel well. Delicious!

Hey P76. Are the lift laws in OZ as tough as they say? i.e. limiting lift of road licensed vehicles.

People tend to put lift largely through springs on things like Nissans and Toyotas as it it is harder to lift the bodies. But on Rangies and Discos you will find the usual combination for up to 35 inch tyres is a 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch spring lift. But the spring lift is attempted through longer springs where possible, then stiffer, if required. |

I'm in the process of trying to install some 255/85/16's on my D1(measure about 33.4") with 4.25" backspaced steelies.. I have a 2.5 in Scorpion racing lift.. So far I've had to trim the backs of both the front and rear wheel wells but it does not appear to be necessary to trim the door.. I did however need to remove my rocksliders as the fronts need to be trimmed (bummer)... Any ideas as to where I should go to get those trimmed?? I don't have the tools..

Any local Fabrication or Welding shop worth its salt can take care of that for you. Should not cost that much to trim your rock sliders and make them look respectable.
