You forgot to add the paint for the headers, they will rust in two days (ask me how I know). You should at least coat them with POR15 manifold paint, but you need to sandblast them first. Also, you might want to get a few sets of gaskets for the flanges, they are pretty thin and you might have to double gasket them.

i think these come painted from Summit...are you saying I need to get some better paint and spray them? if so, where can I get that manifold paint? i dont really have access to a sand blaster...will painting over them work? and yeah, ive heard the flanges are thin...ill tell my exhaust guy to double up on the gaskets. thanks

They have a cheap finish on them. Rattle can is not going to help - It will just burn off.

You need something good. Whether it's por15 or having the jet-coated, you need something better than what is on there...

They come lightly coated (I've installed a few sets of HH). You can get the POR15 right from their website but you HAVE to sandblast, if not the paint won't stick. I tried the POR15 manifold paint on one of my motorcycles w/o sandblasting and it just peeled off as soon as the pipe got hot. I know it's a PIA but you won't regret it. I also realize it's not that easy to find a sandblaster in your area (I haven't been able to find one in NY yet), but ask some of the folks at a local body shop, they might know.

Another option is Jet Hot but that's expensive, it will improve performance because of the smooth surface (inside) but it costs more than the headers.

Here's what Jet Hot looks like on a set of Janspeed Headers for a 3.9 engine:

Hank is right, they both come lightly coated. You can also get the Janspeed in stainless steel but again, more money.

Too bad you can not get a pair ceramic coated. There is always header wrap to hold in temp. But in Rovers your purpose is being out in the element... so wrap would do nothing for protection (rust).

We pulled and fully wrapped the 69 Road RUnner and Challenger a while back and it mad a huge difference in engine compartment temp reduction. Hey as for wrap holding moister... BS... you know how fast they dry when wet. Dont bother with concerns over that element... Plus if painted like they said it works pretty good. But wrapping does help with temp reduction.

Hell the only reason I wrapped was to decrease compartment temp... those 440s get warm. Plus it was supposed to allow the air to flow fast out thus allowing more air in... (the search for more HP... **it never ends. haha).

You can get them ceramic coated....have it done here all the time and they usualy charge less when they are new [not as much clean up]. The other low tech option is "header paint" [high heat paint also]...just scuff up the old paint with a "scotch bright pad...3M", clean and re-spray....a little trick i like to do is as the paint is drying on the last coat dust them with spray silicone [the stuff you use to keep doors seals from sticking etc] as that"s what high heat paint has more of anyways....but remember, dust them only!!!

Because the headers are so cheap, i would just respray them with header paint as you can replace them if they do rust out.....know if they were custom made...different story!!!

Some other guy's to check would be: Doug's Headers, Scorpion Racing [i'm sure they know were to get them]

Oh ya almost forgot....put the O2 sensors in the exhaust just on the other side of the header collector flanges [ i know everyone sees them in the header]so in the vehicles front pipes...the reason for this is you don't have to have a new bung welded in if something happens to the header and you need to replace it....later, Dean

Dean, good advice on the paint.
The Janspeed have the holes/thread for the O2 sensors already. The HH do not.

Just an FYI, we are the exclusive distributors for Scorpion in the US and we carry the Janspeed headers. The pic I posted is of the Janpseed headers coated with Jet-Hot.
