I’ve taken the disco in for service 6 times in the last year for rattles. The doors rattle, the b pillar rattles, the jump seats rattle…Every time I take it to the dealer they want me to ride with them and tell them where the noises are coming from. I feel like this is putting the burden on me, if I can’t tell them what to fix it doesn’t get fixed. I respond by asking which rattle is supposed to be there? What can I do? My wife told the service adviser she didn’t want it back until it fixed, one week or one month, just fix it!

this isn't going to help you any, but it seems like it is hit or miss from what Ive read. I have an 03 disco and havent had to take it in yeat except for a simple burned out headlight, though from reading on this forum, if you have issues you end up having a lot of them. I guess it just depends if your disco was made too early in the morning over there and they were still hung over, or too late in the evening and they were tired, or in the middle of the day when they were eating lunch! If you manage to get one that was built inbetween those times you are in great shape! JUST KIDDING. I love my Disco, and sorry to hear you're having probs. I would say you are doing the right thing by putting your foot down and saying you want it fixed. Is that where you bought it from? If so you will be in a better position to do something about it if the problems remain to be so frequent.

You need to take it back in, one more time, have a mechanic and the service writer ride with you and point out each rattle. Have the service writer write up each rattle, being specific as to it's location. When you pick it up, you want to make sure each rattle is addressed on the work order as to if it was fixed or not. If they can't fix the rattle you want it noted. Then call the 1-800 number for customer service and file a complaint against the dealer and request to meet with the local factory rep to have him inspect the truck.
Having been a service writer for a long time, trust me this will get their attention. Mike J. |

I appreciate the advice. I'm surprised that the dealer doesn't see the same problems over and over enabling them the diagnose the problems w/ a little more accuracy. Whats irritating is that they will fix some of the problems but they will come back in a few weeks. Oh well.

I don't see how the B'pillar can rattle, but when you say the door rattles, does it do it when you have the window down? If so, what you will find is that it in fact is not the door, but the window glass rattling. A simple solution to this is to raise the window a smiggin. Let's know how you make out.

My 02 was plagued with rattles and gremlins too. However, my dealer was phenominal about fixing the issues. They even replaced all the seat frams in the entire vehicle because, for whatever reason, that is where 90% of the noise came from.
All I did was call them up, tell them the issue, then brought it in on the date they had available. They gave me either a newer Disco or an X-Type Jaguar to drive around until it was fixed. Good luck

Not to dissapoint you, but the 7-seater Discos do commonly rattle around the jump seats. Some by a bit, some a way to the extreme. If the dealer can get it quiet, great!!!, but don't expect it to be real quiet. Carlos |
