Default Help can't pass emissions

A friend of mine has a '96 Disco I. She can't pass the emissions. They gave me the sheet with all the codes and for the most part I have a good idea what's up but I want your opinions. I am a strong believer in Land Rover and love my rangie. Now here are the codes:

P0125 Insufficient Coolant Temp for closed loop fuel control
P0183 fuel temperature sensor A circuit high input
P1179 maximum negative AMFR correction fault
P0300 random/mulitple cylinder misfire detected
P0308 cylinder 8 misfire
P0307 cylinder 7 misfire
P0305 cylinder 5 misfire
P0303 cylinder 3 misfire
P1313 misfire catalyst damage fault bank A
P1314 misfire catalyst damage fault bank B
P1316 misfire excessive emissions fault

My diagnosis was a set of new wires/plugs and new catalytic converters. I don't want to be wrong since her dad wants to get rid of the car if there's too much wrong but I think this is something minor or fixable. And I would hate to see her sell a Disco. I am very handy and so is her dad, I completely rebuilt my EAS so I have a grip on the Rovers...Also I read on here that a smiliar set of codes was diagnosed as a bad ignition coil. And could o2 sensors be it? This is where I need your guys' help. Thanks!!!!

Do the plugs/wires and check for air leaks. Then get the engine ECU's adaptive values reset and watch for oxygen sensor activity on live data displays - if they are then switching properly try your emissions again.9 times out of 10 this will sort it.DO NOT change the Cats till it fails with the Oxy sensors switching properly, this is the last resort they are expensivecontain precious metals and should ONLY ever be changed when it is proved they have failed.

Do you have the gas readings? THat would help.

Also, be advised. 96 Disco had a updated PROM to address a p0125. It is no longer avalible.

It may not NEED cats yet. The computer is saying there are enough misfires to CAUSE cat damage.

Your barking up the right tree, Start with some CHAMPION spark plugs and new wires and see what happens.

THis reeks of a dripping injector though.

I helped her with the car today and changed the plugs/wires since regardless of whats wrong those are always a good thing to start with. We tried resetting the computer with the old taking the positive off the battery for ten minutes but that didn't do it. Is there another way to reset the computer? Thanks so far for your guys' help!

ps the plugs were champions.

On an OBD2 D1, the codes will still be stored in the computer. You will need to delete the codes using a code reader. Places like Auto Zone and such are releuctant to delete codes for you unless shown proof positive you have actually fixed the problem(liability reasons). If you have a Harbor Freight around you, they sell cheap code readers($50). If you have a Rover you'll need one.

That was a some premature celebration...today the light went off and the codes that read were p0300 p0305 p1316. So most of the codes are gone now. I double check the wire and plug connection on the fifth cylinder. I then reset the computer and see if it gets triggered again if so, I am going to move the coil ignition of cylinder 5 to another one and see if the misfire moves to that cylinder if so then I will be replacing that coil.
