That stuff there is dead-on. Thanks guys. It's 8 degrees, and the wind is blowing about 15mph here. On top of that, we got hammered with a foot of snow yesterday and we're getting more tomorrow. In the morning I'll give it another try. I think it will work no problem then.

I didn't know that trick about engaging the CDL before starting to disengage the ABS! I've been pulling the fuse when offroading, but I'll give this a try instead next time I'm out.

The CDL was stuck on my '98 when I first got it. I used the page already listed and now it works great. Once you get it unstuck, be sure to lock it in every once in a while so you won't have to go through the procedure again. I also like to run it through an undercarriage wash every so often to make sure to get the muck and grime off of there.

I do a lot of mountain driving in the snow, and tires do make a big difference. Also try to remember that your Disco is really heavy, and drive accordingly. Another thing you might want to check is your ABS adjustment.

Errant,
When you ar going off the road, lock up like you usually and go. When the going gets tough, shut down the truck while leaving in one of the lock positions and just restart, done deal.

OK Errant, I'll bite. How would I go about checking the ABS adjustment. It seems as if the ABS came on as soon as I would touch the brakes today.

You know the picture....where I'm just laying on the brakes coming into a stop sign and the truck just rolls through it as if I had never even touched the brakes.

Well I'm not sure there's an actual adjustment, but I do know that the sensor can become unseated (usually while replacing the rotors). I was told by a mechanic that I need to have my driver side checked, but I've left it alone until my next brake job.

Even with the ABS out of whack, I wouldn't think you'd roll through a stop. Does the pedal pulsate like it should when the ABS activates?

Maybe Mike can give us more info on this one?

Oh for sure. The pedal was pulsating. But it really wasn't doing anything. And I didn't have an ice build up, because it was doing this right from the get-go. What was that guy saying about how he pulls the ABS fuse when he goes off-roading? Can a guy just pull the ABS fuse and still have manual braking without ruining anything?

ok, being from canada aswell, i can tell from personal experience that it's great in the snow.. however i did get stuck in the snow. Hit some black ice, skidded and ended in up in a ditch. The snow was packed down under the engine and my front driver side tire was off the ground. with the angle that i was in, the rear passenger side wasn't getting any traction. even with cdl low engaged, i was stuck. had to wait till a friendly RRC pulled me out and that was an adventure in itself as i was in DEEP.
take care

Yeah, i'm not too much of a fan of ABS, either in the snow, or crawling down a big hill while wheeling.. when it kicks it, it seems like it doesn't do anything except pulsate.. i usually take my foot off the brake real fast and reapply it and it goes away.

I have no use for ABS I unplugged the entire ABS ECU. I prefer being able to stop even if that means locking them up. I've driven far to many racecars at 10/10ths to put up with not having control of my brakes due to electronics, Oh yeah and LUCAS electronics at that, and we all know how much I love LUCAS
