Default HELP!! Ignition??

I have a 1997 Land Rover Discovery. I was driving it one day and the whole thing shut down on me. They think because my key was bent that the ignition didnt recognize my key and shut it down.? Current mechanic says i 'probably' need a new ignition with key then an alarm module. Another tells me i could just replace the key. I dont have $$$ to gamble. Has anybody else had this problem??? Please help!!!!!

If the key turns in the switch it's OK. If you can turn on the ignition (position 1 so all the warning lamps come on) make sure the the "check engine" lamp comes on. Of it does not, then it is immobilized and you need someone with a Testbook to relearn security. If the check engine lamp is on and the engine cranks but doesn't start, check the usual suspects like the crank angle sensor or the fuel pump.

Sounds electrical or fuel related.
If the key turned and got it started then I doubt it all of a sudden caused anything to go bad just sitting there in the ignition. Make sure you check the fuel. Your mechanic should be doing this. Have someone turn the key to Pos II while you have your ear to the floor of the cargo area. You should hear the pump run for ~5 seconds. Work from there to troubleshoot.
I'm assuming you only have 1 key?
