Help needed with D1 probs...minor ones

Hey guys, before I start, I have to take a moment to thank those who've helped me out with my truck, for those who ask the questions I have as well, and for the ones who respond to those questions with answers and solutions...

So like I said, nothing major, at least I hope not...

1) I get a rattle comming from bottom of the truck, as if the cat and pipes were loose but they're not. Ive already done some research and i found that the parts inside the cat called Matrixes ( hope I spelled the plural version of the word correctly ) are known for comming loose and producing the rattle. I read that the sound is produced at about 40-50mph and on idle...which are precisely the times I hear it too. I would need to replace the entire cat to fix that right? Or can the cat be opened and have the matrix replaced?

2) Another rattle. This one comes from the Tailgate. About 3 weeks ago I was washing my truck and when cleaning the area around the frame at the back, noticed that the little petruding rod where the tailgate lock clicks to was loose, so I fastened it. But now, my door feels like it doesn't shut all the way. When opening the tailgate, its as if it wasnt shut right and there is no unclicking sound when the handle is pressed and you can swing the door opened easily. When shut, you can still push it in more but it'll move back again when you stop pushing...almost as if the only thing stoping the door was the weatherstrip and if you pushed on it, the rubber would squeeze and when let it it comes back...Hope I explained that well enough to visualize. Weird part is that after I quit pushing on it and it comes back to what seems to be a closed position, the door is completely flush with the frame as if it were shut right. When driving, it rattles when ever I get bumbs (and down here there are nothing but bumpy roads due to construction so the door is constantly rattling ) There is nothing near the hinges preventing the door from closing, my weatherstripping is intact, and I dont know what else to inspect? It's almost as if I had moved the little rod out of place when I fastened it. Any ideas?

as for your cat, you can usually get a generic cat welded to the one that's rattling around. not real need to replace the whole y pipe assembly unless it's falling part. if you're going to replace the y pipe spend the extra $$ and get the stainless steel.
the back door is prone to getting "dropped". there's a trapizoid peice, see if that's worn down if it is, you'll need to get that replaced

OK so the prob with the door was that the bolt for the latch that i had fastened, can be moved about a centimeter foward and back so when i tightened it, i did it in the foward-most position, and when i would close the door, the latch would catch the bolt but not shut completely...thanks for the advice Dent....im moving onto the Cat now

Just so you don't buy a new cat just to find out it was something else.

My D1 makes rattles especially from the steering rods over rough roads but everything is functional. I heard the same from my Ford F-250 ambulance and many times I wish I had access to a shake table like the HUMMER commercial.

Shop around. Stainless cats are about $600 awhile regular cats are a LOT cheaper. Just rust better though.

A good hint you will need a new cat is if there is a good shot (read dent) in the side of the cat. Then awhile you are down there, think about the budget and see if you wanna do the headers and the pipes and the muffler in one shot.

I just got the RoversNorth pamplet and they have some new exhausts ideas. You might also talk to your perfered exhaust professional. Midas got Flowmasters too if you like it loud.

Us Yanks call it honeycomb. You can replace the cats with Summit Racing hi performance cats for about 60 bucks each.

If you decide to go with headers get the Janspeed and not the Headman. The Janspeed have the holes for the O2 sensors and the flanges are thicker than the Headmans. We've done the Headers on my partner's 91 RR (Janspeed) with Summit Racing cats and a flowmaster in the middle (straight pipe in back).

We've also done the Headman headers on a customers D90 but they didn't fit that well.

Sorry to pop my nose in, but I'll be looking to replace/upgrade my cats./exhaust soon and was wondering if I can install universal cats. on my Disco ll.I'm also planning on doing a dual-exhaust, similar muffler as stock, but with two outlets instead of one.I don't know if it has been done before, will update when I do it. The problem would be routing the second exit through the body/rear axle.

haha...be my guest carlos, i actually had the same quesiton, i went on the Summit Site and didnt know what Cats to look at, so i looked at the universal ones...i just gotta get the size of the pics now
