Default Hey guys... couple issues with a 97 Disco

hey guys,
Im posting this for my dad, he's had some issues with our disco.

My dad was coming home from dropping me off at the airport right after Christmas break when a bunch of stuff happened, apparently the water pump blew, serpentine belt broke and a few other things. We got the water pump replaced and everything fixed up and few problems have remained.

first thing, the engine is running hot - its not actually overheating but the guage keeps showing the engine getting hotter and hotter, temp goes above the red but it doesnt actually overheat. It only takes a trip to the local store and above the red. Nothing happens though, being our only car, my dad had to take it a good distance north to pick something up and it was red the whole time - car never overheated or anything. Nothing steaming out of the engine, nothing leaking under the truck.

and secondly, most likely related, he says there is a sound of rushing water behind the dash/firewall area - thats all he could describe it as. He said the first time it happened he pulled his feet up from the pedals, thinking water was about to dump onto his feet. Again, nothing steaming, nothing leaking.

You guys have any idea what it could be?

We took it back to our mechanic replaced the thermostat not too long ago and the dude had no idea what the rushing water sound was. He also said for us to look around and see if anyone had any ideas what the issue could be, he didnt want to put in a new radiator if we dont need one.

Thanks to anyone that can lend a hand

Oh, its a 1997 Disco 4.0 w/ 130,000 miles

Rushing water sound is air in your cooling system. Take your truck to a different mechanic who knows what the hell he is doing! What is your locale? I'm sure someone on this forum can refer you to a decent mechanic. Also...are you sure your guy installed the thermostat correctly??

Listen to X on this one: find a mech who knows LRs. Also, try doing the procedure described here Cooling System, that should take care of the "waves" - though I'm not sure if it'll do anything for the temp reading.

Oh, and be very careful listening to X about anything that isn't LR; welcome to LRO; post some pictures...

Cheers,

Ok, let's not hijack this thread.

BigTal, pretend you understand nothing of the last two posts, get the air bled from your engine cooling system and go from there.

Good luck!

Florida - contact JC on this board - aka Binary (01010100 or whatever the hell it is). He lives in Florida and can point you in the right direction.

The air in the coolant system is not hard to correct, if it is still doing it, then get back to me and I'll walk you thru it.
During those times when you hear the noise, will yor heater blow hot at an idle or do you have to reve up the engine to get heat?
Mike
