Default High Idle

Ok i just rebuilt the top end of my 97 Disco. I finally got it started and the thing idles like its in nascar 2500. I have some cracked rubber hoses coming from under the servo that connect to a T piece and then going to the throttle, in the firewall, and one going up front somewhere i can't see. I'll replace them tomorrow. I loosened up the throttle didn't work. i checked the vacuum lines on the diagram they didn't looked cracked. Is there anything else i should check. i checked the other threads, some things i didn't understand. THANKS!!!

try the stepper motor, well turn the idle screw a bit to get it down.

if it still idles high I would suspect that tps signal might be off.

how are the pcv hoses. are they collapsed.

The vacuum hose you are talking about is the hose for the cruise control. It's relatively minor and should not have any major effects on anything other then your cruise control.

As for the high idle did you reset the ECU? Although I can't really see anybody rebuilding the top half of the engine and not disconnecting the battery so that should not be a problem. In which case I have no idea.

Like Rovin4Life says, check you stepper motor (aka Idle Air Control Valve) - I posted a picture of my IACV a while back, but I understand that your'97 is different than my '95 - it's a thumb-sized actuator that sticks out of your plenum chamber.

Cheers,

I've been asking about this same problem for 2 years with no success. I even took it to the dealer at a cost of $160 for no results. I was on a trail run with a LR mech and he noted that my pcv hoses were kinda loose. He recommended replacing the hoses, cleaning the plenum, then taking it in for them to play with the idle screws or something of the sort. Does yours idle high in P/N, and somewhat normal in D/R? Good luck with this, if you can figure this out you're luckier than I.

Default help please!!!

ok so my truck was running just with a high idle in P/N at about 2500. Then i disconnected the battery to reset the ECU. i reconnected it and now it won't start. it will rotate but not start. i even replaced the spark plugs and no effect. im gonna order some magnecors although WHERE DO I GET MAGNECORES for less than a left testicle! i also ordered a pvc hose kit from AB. i checked all the fuses FINE. im stumped.

do you have fuel pressure.

i suspect perhaps the fuel cutoff has been tripped.

crank and no start could be the ole crank shaft position sensor. check and see if you are getting spark by pulling a plug, sticking a screwdriver down into the metal contacts, leaning it close to the manifold but not touching and have someone give it a little crank....you should see spark.

report back

enjoy!

ok stupid natural blonde moment for a guy. i forgot to reconnect a multi-plug. so it starts but it still idles high 2500-3000 in P/N, and 1500-2000 in R/D.

Take your hand and cover the air intake. It should stall. If it keeps running, you have a vacuum leak allowing unmetered air into the engine.
