I'm seriously considering having the interior of the hood (bonnet) covered in Rhino Lining, as the OEM fiberglass mat is a disaster after all these years.
What do you guys think?

Not in Bolivia I won't - "regular" batteries only (you may imagine the issues I'd have trying to fly back from the US with a battery)...

There are rubberized undercoatings and there are paintable rubberized undercoatings. Personally, I would go with the paintable and then you could simply use a high temp paint and paint over it. Some of those coating will have temp limits but many will promise not to run "melt" so to speak.

Great suggestions, thanks!
The fundamental issue is that I don't have that many choices here (Bolivia) - shipping is also an issue... I've got a Rhino Lining dealer, though. And he has applied the stuff to other hoods (he's got some pretty cool pix). The specs of this stuff claim it withstands temps up to 600ºF (I think, I'm not at my desk right now) is corrosion resistant and an excellent sound insulator. As it is air and water proof (and seals the substrate it is applied to) I like the idea of not having to worry about my Disco and the toil I put it through... The guy here just showed me a video of a Rhino Lining-coated cinder block wall that withstood a simulated car bomb blast (next to an uncoated wall that was blown apart). The US gov't has also contracted them to coat gas tanks - they become self-sealing after a bullet puncture... Cheers,
