Default ICV/ Stepper Motor.

A while back I described a near stall problem/ low idle.. And we all assumed that it was the idle control valve or ICV.F I tried cleaning the dirty stepper motor, and it didnt work, so I went out and got myself a shiny new stepper. It didnt solve the problem, I dunno what the hell I need to do to fix the low idle when engaged in drive.. I have a new air, oil, and filter, fairly fresh tranny fluid, the car is well maintained. I ever replaced the main belt. I really dont know what can be wrong with the car. I noticed that in reverse gear the problem is usually greater, and also when the steering is turned to its maximums. So I plea for Help..

Default possible missfire

Does it stall or is more like a missfire if It's the missfire try Dist cap, rotor or leads. Listen to the leads when it idles you may hear a slight ticking sound from them (tracking ) if they are on the way out.

How about D1's favorite problem, a dirty fuel filter or fuel pressure realted problems, relay or pump?

Distributor cap is new =/.
The only observation I can make, is that is shakes. Idle when stopped at a light is always marginally above the thinnest line towards the bottom, the exhaust has a few leaks, but the problem has been there before that.

How would I go about checking the fuel filter?

I presume you mean "where is it?": if you remove the right rear tire, it's in the upper forward area just above and ahead of where the tire just was. You can still find it and look at it without removing the tire, but it's tougher...

Good luck!

Don't worry about checking the fuel filter, if it has been more then 30,000 miles just change it. It is a pretty common size and can be found at most auto parts stores. The biggest problem with changing the filter is it is hard to loosen up the in and out lines, so give them a good soaking of WD40 or some other penetrating oil.
Those filters are know to plug up and cause hard starts or rough idles.
Good luck,
Mike

Doesnt have problems with starting, usually starts after a second. If I were to get the fuel filter replacement done by someone else, how much is that?

Grunt:

Replace the filter yourself. We can't advise on cost as we don't know where you'll take it. This fix is something you can do yourself. If this doesn't fix the problem, maybe a tune up is in order. I've been down this road before. But let us know your results.

Militant-Grunt. It took me about 45 minutes to change the fuel filter (in the pouring rain with the poor Mrs. hold an umbrella!), so any shop should do the job in 30 minutes. To do the job yourself is advisable - you have to jack her up and get the wheel off (mine needed persuading with a mallet). Don't forget to shore up the rear axle properly so we don't lose you...
I used a Land Rover filter ($29 Canadian) last time but apparently the following replacements will work:
FRAM G3727 (about $15 Canadian)
PUROLATOR F33144 (cost ?)

Yes, it's on the right side (passenger side in N. America) and you have to take the rear wheel off as mentioned. The only other detail I remember is that you have to clean up the tubes (in and out) carefully so there no chance of getting contamination in the fuel line.
