Craig, if that's USD, you got severely ripped off, that coil is only $35.

You guys with all this flexibility... What can a fella do with a 98 Disco?
Do I have an option to change or upgrade my coil pack?

Recon the more modern you get with the Disco the more problems seem to occure, mine is the 1993 so basicly its the old Rover V8 3.5 with an injection unit thrown on. Here in New Zealand this engine was used for stockcars so parts are in plenty supply
and very fairly priced too. |

Well guys it came today (New Blaster 2 coil) and yep its made some difference, seems cleaner off the mark and also seems to change smoother for some reason!!! Will know better in the morning as im driving over to Auckland with 3 ton of steel in the trailer, that will sort the men from the boy's
Just orded one of these vortex units for the air system off E-Bay, they recon 16% more HP and 31% better fuel mmmmmmmmmmmm lets see if thats true aye as my right foot tends to favor the "hard on the floor" position rather than the mid way point.... Just as well I have a Laser/radar scrambler fitted I tend to use it most trips ![]() |

For the 4.0, you'll need an ignition kit that works with a distributorless ignition system. See my post above for some MSD kits that will work on your truck.
The 3.9 and older engines have a single ignition coil that feeds the spark. This plugs into the distributor, which sends the spark to the proper cylinder. On the 4.0 and newer engines, this system is replaced by several small coils that feed individual cylinders. These coil packs are triggered in the proper sequence by the computer, and everything is handled electronically. Unfortunately, these systems tend to lose spark intensity at high RPMs. The MSD kits I linked above will help boost spark power and increase performance without the traditional coil & distributor ignition. I've never really dealt with distributorless systems, so I can't really recommend one of those over the others, that's just what I got from the MSD website. Good luck!

Hi fellas, just got back from the 800km trip, no "great" gain re fuel but it did do better, its more responsive on the pedal though
So whats with the "Vortex" thing, most sellers on E-Bay are stating the 30+% save on fuel (not that that bothers me at all) but the wee extra bit of power always helps the male ego ![]() |
