Default Key Fob Alarm issues

Any suggestions to this one???
Last winter I drove my car to the mountain for some snowboarding.
When I got done for the day, the key fob would not unalarm the car and to make a long story short was an incredible pain in the neck.
The next week the LR dealer gave me a brand new key fob. It works now, except that occasionally it will decide to not open my doors, and I have to push it repeatedly for 30 seconds or so before it will unlock/disarm. This is particularly scary to not trust your key fob because you don't want to be far from home and be screwed. If you open the door with a key, the alarm on the ignition is disabled! So, for the past year I have not been alarming my car and just using the key because I just don't trust the fob.
First, does anybody have any suggestions on this other than try a new fob?
Second, does anyone know a trick to disarm the vehicle with the key in case I decide to try using the key fob again and it fails me???
Thanks in advance!

i kno in the rain, or high humidy my key fob doesn't work as well. sometimes i have to go up to the right front fender, where the ecu is, nd push the button a couple times. but on a nice sunny day, i jus push it as i walk to the car, nd it works fine.

Still it doesn't seem like that is a good option. What do i do if it just will not open? Is there a way to disarm the vehicle with the key? My other car NEVER has had this issue and can disarm from over a block away if I want. Anybody have any suggestions, answers, or ideas?

Cool

If you could put the year model of your Rover, then i might be able to add something to the dialog, but with so many different key fobs (all with their own quarks) i can't really help!!!
