Default Looking into "new" transmission?

I found this on ebay today. I have syncro problems in 2nd and 3rd, and I am looking to replace what I have, at some point. What do you think about this guy. I am kinda afraid of it. Great price, but who rebuilt it, no statement of garuntee, and NO feedback?

Ask the seller a question about that!

That is something I would recommend you stay away from. Not knowing the rebuilder, the parts that were used and the quality of his work, you are just asking for problems.
Why not have your tranny rebuilt, syncros are not real hard to replace.
My question is how many miles on your truck, and why 3rd. gear syncro?
This is not common unless you are over using your tranny for slowing down.
Try a better grade of oil, with more frequent oil changes and less tranny braking, brake pads are alot cheaper to replace.

I don't slow down with the transmission!!! I don' t know why it feels this way? I feels like it is hard to get into 3rd. I of course have the 2nd gear syncro prob. I bought it with 67k, Started to notice the 2nd gear at around 85k. I now have 117k. I found a guy that can order me some redline. I am going to try that before I buy anthing. It is really an anoyance at this time. Funny thing though, when I was pulling some "small" trees out with it, I had to spin the tires, and really dig down with it. For a few months things worked great after that Then slowly it started going back to the same syncro prob. HMMM!

That's not a "reman plant" - That's a small rebuild shop. People toss around the term 'remanufactured' a lot. I'd guess it's been freshened up but probably with non original parts etc. I wouldn't do it although the price is low-

You could be looking at a shift fork problem also, no way to really know unless you open it up.
Good luck,
Mike

I called and talked to the guy the other day with the transmission and basically got the same description. I plan on picking one up next week as I'm only about an hour away from his shop. My D1 also has bad 2nd gear synchros at 163k.

I had planned on just replacing the bad synchro, but haven't found a source for them yet. Anyone know where to find internal tranny parts?

I figure if I swap one of his in and fix the synchro in mine and set it to the side, I'll never have tranny problems again

Let me know what you think of it. The price was the main reason I was interested in it. That is just almost too good to pass up.

Give Greorge @ RDS a call (504) 248-5301.....great guy to do business with. He has rebuilt R380s so I'm guessing he'll have the internals as well.

Outside of George, there's always the list of usual suspects......BP, RN, AB, TLR.........

If no luck there, try Ashcroft over in the UK. I ordered a complete R380 from them and now it sits all nice & shiny in my '96

Thanks, I'll give him a ring and see what he's got.
