Default low idle

My 1997 Discovery idles low and stalls when I slow down. Spraying carburetor cleaner fixes the problem temporarily, but I would like to know how to really fix the problem. Any suggestions?

Have you checked your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve)? Two screws to remove.

Hi, I agree sounds like Idle control motor, I had a very similiar problem, they get fouled with alot of carbon after alot of miles if the truck isn't running perfect. Good thing is it's an easy fix. If you remove it, and use some carb cleaner and a soft toothbruch you can clean it out and it should work ok after as long as it's not seized. If it is do not go to the dealer they get like $450 for one. I found an aftermarket one at Rockauto.com for $63 bucks including shipping. Another solution is the idle control motor from a 92-95 chevy astro van will work also (I am pretty sure that is the year) and you can get them at any auto parts store for around $40 bucks. Hope thisa helped a little. Also are you throwing any codes on the computer?

lowbudget it's so low your truck shouldn't even be running....lol. 700rpm is normal warm idle, yours is a little high and I bet your gas mileage is around 14.

Default still stalls

I had the throttle body cleaned and the vacuum lines replaced. Now have a new fuel filter to install. Just downloaded manual - so haven't tried to clean idle air control valve yet - didn't want to screw it up!
