Default Manifold to down pipe still ticking

I got all three studs replaced and a brand new gasget from AB installed, still ticking from that connection, passenger side doesnt do this. Its not the cat, its brand new. I am wondering about putting a second gasget in there to see if that seals it up. Not much to AB's gasgets, espicaly if the mating surfaces are not perfectly smooth, I dont see how they can seal up. Its basicly a thin piece of metal. Is there something better, the ticking really detracts from the nice V8 rumble. Replaceing the manifold or Y pipe isnt in the budget as who says another used manifold wont do the same thing. There are no cracks anywhere either, myself and the exhaust mechanic both looked it over closely. Any suggestions for a better gasget between the manifold and down pipe???? Thanks Mike and Michele T

generally I use a small amount of exhaust assembly paste on the mateing surfaces this will cure your problem

I plan to look at it more tuesday after work, she is down right now with a bad water pump bearing, been hearing a bad bearing noise, was looking for the the leak and watch the water pump pully kind of wallowing around, so I shut it down and there it will sit till the pump gets here, Got one from BP via UPS Red so it will be here tuesday morn. We have a trip to take on Thursday and I need the Disco for the trip. Guess I am driving the Jeep the next two days. YUCK! Thanks Mike

I've had the exact same issue... I recently had exhaust manifold and all new head gaskets, etc....changed, but still the tick, but lower sound w/acceleration....

Anyway, here's a good link to possible problem that may save you some time. Take note to HANK's post about the rocker arms....

'95 engine ticking - any suggestions?

I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm way off base here. Good luck!

This isnt up in the engine bay, infact you cannot hear it from the top side with your head under the hood. I can see a soot trail on top of the down pipe from a weld near the elbow and goes back towards the cat. I am thinking they didnt get the weld completely sealed up when they replaced the cats, the previous owner didnt replace the whole Y pipe, but had replacement cats welded in. The did a good job from what I can see. If its leaking from a joint, a little JB weld will solve that. To rainy right now, and its down waiting on a water pump, I dont plan to start it again till its replaced. Thanks Mike
