Default manifold to exhaust gasgets

Is it common for discoverys to develope the exhaust tick from the manifold to exhaust flange gasgets? Both my 1995 I used to have, and the 1996 I have now both do it. I even replaced them on the 95 and it still ticked under throttle. Not noticable at idle or crusing on the highway though. Guess I am gonna have to order a pair of the gasgets from Atlantic British and swap them out. Hope them flange bolts come loose. Thanks Mike

I had a cracked exhaust manifold that used to tick but only at idle under any sort of gas it would go away. Are you sure it's not your Cats? Mine tick a good bit almost enough to make me want to replace them but not any time soon.

Not sure of the year, but I believe there were some recalls on the exhaust manifolds. I would suggest you call your dealer and requests they run your vehicle for recalls.

I did and I visualy checked the manifolds, they are fine, its comming from the drivers side cat area, the cats look recently changed. When it warms up next week, I will get it up on jack stands so I can slide underneath and take a look, I have changed the pipe to manifold gasgets before, but its sounds like its more around the cat. I am wondering if one of the 02 sensor bungs have come unwelded or is cracked away from the pipe, had a ford pickup truck do that at the shop one time, sounded just like that. Thanks Mike

The DI cats are notorious for pinging. I would be surprised if you found anything visually wrong with them other then old age.

I have had cats rattle, but never tick like an exhaust leak, I do know what an exhaust leak sounds like. When this weather clears up, snowing and blowing hard here now, I will get a better look at the issue. As long as she starts and gets me to work, thats all I ask right now. Mike

well if it is an exhaust leak just run a little seafoam though your plenum. You'll see the smoke come out of every crack and crevice.

She goes in tomorrow morning for the tires to be put on, I plan to have a look while she is up on the rack so I know what needs to be done. Just after the cat is where the pipes have been reconnected with a splice joint. It sounds like it might be comming from there. I will post more when I know more. Thanks Mike
