Unhappy Mass Air Flow sensor / OBD II

I only recently became a disco owner(97), 1st ever LR. It came with the check engine light already on. Some bonus. The local dealer said it had the wrong
spark plugs ($219). and would also need a new MAF ($600). I still love the vehicle, so I located a MAF for much less and can install it easily. My problem stems from the trip to the dealer. They say that the part of the ECU that reads the MAF is currently 'disabled' (by them) and that only their magic Land Rover machine can 'enable' the ECU to read the new MAF ($100).

I am I being fed a line? Can an ordinary smog shop clear this or does it require LR technology? What exactly did they do to 'disable' the ECU?

yeah, LR dealers are nuts....I would ask around and search for your local land rover independent shop....mine is so much cheaper, and yes....they do have Testbook the "magic" thing.

Your dealer is getting some good Sao Paulo North Slope Trip Weed... Ask them if they roll it into blunts, use a pipe made from hardware store fittings or follow the current fad of using a hooka.

I'm in Chico,CA but the disco is in Reno with my daughter.
I know that the dealer did something to disable the MAF readings, but I don't know what it will take to enable it again? Bob

are you getting second hand info or directly from the dealer.

Cause what you are saying makes no sense.
