Unhappy Mechanic's Help Please

I could use a little info as my manual is still in route from the UK.

I get error code 14 on the error code box under the seat so I bought a water temp sensor to replace the old one but before I do I'd like to know how to reset the codes so I can duplicate the error one more time before I start taking things apart. (which is the "serial cable" I'm supposed to disconect to reset the box etc.)

Also how do I test the old sensor's continuity to check and make sure it's really gone south before I remove it.

For a little back background here we go: The Disco starts reluctantly when hot. Sometimes not at all. And when it does it runs rough until underway. I don' think it's the fuel pump as it happens only when hot and it's worse the hotter it gets.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Eric
