After a year and a half, and one wheelin trip in GA...I have finally made up my mind about what I want to do with the exterior of my truck...

The only logical thing to do - repaint it white!

A while back, I had spoken about doing a military exterior finish...

Exterior Finish Options

But after further research and yet another change of mind based on experiences, White is the perfect color for an active Discovery.

Who doesnt like a white disco?..lol

Hey stop trying to copy us and go find your own color.

Actually I love the white disco which is probably why I own one. But if you do paint it make sure to do it right and get the inside of everything also. Nothing worse then a car where the inside of the doors don't match the outside.

so I have FINALLY allocated some funds for necessary work. Things on the "To Buy" list:

-Stainless Steel Y-pipe
-Four new LR O2 sensors
-Stainless Steel Tubing and Mufflers

With this, I should be able to clear 3 of the 4 codes. Also, with new O2 sensors providing the ECU with a clean reading, I should see an increase in mileage (I've seen a decrease in mileage over the last year). The 4th code has to do with the front driver's side ABS sensor. As soon as my space heater comes in, I'll unplug it and see what's going on in there. I think it's just dirty.

After that I'd really like to focus on the flushing the cooling system, changing the transmission oil & trans. oil lines to braided lines (the stock solid line interferes with the bumper and winch line when its fully rolled up), and finally the Trans. oil cooler.

One thing I've also left pending is that rear A-arm ball joint.

I was on 85 South on my way to a meeting, when my belt tensioner pulley took a dump on me. Somehow, the belt didnt get tangled up too bad. I was actually able to keep the old belt to be used as a spare. I hadn't realized this when I initially popped the hood since I still have SAE mud all over the truck...The pulley bearing was missing the covers for the rollers and the pully itself had a nasty crack in it. Because of this damage, the bracket also needed to be replaced.

After driving about 1/4 mile with no alt, no power steering, and no cooling to get off the highway, I pulled into an Inn off the side of the road. First phone call went to The Shop...asked how busy things were and I was told that I could bring my truck in. Called AAA, and the flatbed appeared at the scene much quicker than they mentioned. Third call was made to rescedule my meeting for a later time. After being towed over, Will and Victor (?) immidiately started working only to discover the pulley damage. Made a few phone calls...minutes later, Luke shows up with the part and I get to my meeting on time!

Top notch quality and service being provided by top notch people!! I can't say thank you enough!!

THANK YOU!!!

This week I will be removing the lock-out solenoid from the Transfer case and lubricating the linkages up.

Next weekend I will finally be able to test out my CDL.

edit: oops! that reply was to the K&N air filter comment on page three i think... haha sorry about that didnt realize the post was this long

i will second that... heres what i've found with k&n filters in MY truck.

Start up... runs alright, kinda boggy? weird
take k&n out and replace with new paper filter: runs fine
Clean k&n filter and re oiled, let sit over night, reinstalled in truck: boggy and weird
put in paper filter... runs fine
put in paper filter take off the hose from the MAF runs really boggy and weird...

my theory, for MY truck is that it simply lets in too much air or its getting the oils from the filter inside somehow, which i doubt because I've cleaned and re-oiled per directions.

so if you would like to buy my k&n air filter (round one, fits the 93 classic) its all yours for 5 bucks plus shipping. hahah but like i said its just my truck that its all weird with and dont get me wrong i run K&N filters in my 07 klx250s and its great.

So plans have changed YET again. With the arrival of the new family member - the Series - I have begun to bring the Disco back to its former glory. I have started by rebuilding the front end with stock components. I have purchased used endcaps, valance and bumper and am currently restoring those by sanding and painting.

More to come in the following days.

hey not to piss on anyones birthday cake or anything... But if you want a K&N air filter you can have mine, it sucks. (it sucks too much dirt into my engine i mean) and the oils make my MAF have a nervous breakdown, and i know how to properly clean and oil filters.
I didnt read the WHOLE forum but about 3 pages of it so sorry if i'm the second or third to say this. As a result i went back to paper and its running a lot better. (Thats just me and my truck, who am i to say that K&N is no good for everyone)
I even used to use K&N in my dirtbike but because it lets in so much "air" its also letting in more dirt. I cant find the articles that backed this statement up with solid proof but there on google if you look around, something of "turbo desile max" engines or what not is the name of it. And i've heard horror stories of people running them and blowing a brand new engine only to find that the "K&N air filters wont void your warranty" is not a true statement. And with a name like K&N do you think they would let test results that say their filters let more grime and dirt in your engine out??? nope, and who else has a $100,000 machine to test them. very few... This is why that report that i found makes sense to me anyway... not tested by a filter company, tested over 8 or 9 different brands and all done in a controlled atmosphere. sorry for the rant, i just dont want anyone else going thru what i went thru only to find out that its a shitty filter. just my .02 sorry if i offended anyone.

i feel like a douche now.... sorry about the rant, i'm lookin for the article, i found a few others that relate, but not the one i was originally referring to

please dont torch me for this one

K&N Filters
Air Filtration Test
How well do K&N air filters work? - Tech - Bits n' Pieces, the Offroad Pakistan Blog - 4x4 Offroaders Club Karachi
I i'm pretty sure that the last one refers to the duramax test i was talking about but the link is gone... dun dun dun dannnnnn! maybe K&N had him shot for talkin shit, i guess i better watch my back... hehehe

look i'm not a scientist and i'm not a mechanic so i'm not going to pretend to be one i'm just going off hear say and what i find on the internet (which as well all know isnt always the best source of reliable information) just trying to bring a little food for thought to the table. let me know what you think/find on K&N because i can tell that it lets more air in but i'm not willing to sacrafice long term engine life for a little HP gain, not worth it to me, i'd rather change the paper filter a few times.

So im going to attampt to replace the Ball Joint on the rear axle out on my own. From the reading I've done, this job could be a PITA. Any advice? I've already begun to spray some PB blaster on there to get things movin. The Workshop manual doesnt really go into detail so that leads me to believe that it SHOULD be easy...corrosion SHOULD be the only thing to make it a headache. My drivetrain is in pretty good shape so I hope its a straight foward job.

Is there any tool that'll make the job easier?

Sometimes I have to admit, a repair might be over my head...

When are you going to start selling belts and hoses on TerraTrekker?
