Serg
i filled up in san jose and drove to paso robles where i filled up at a 76 there
i have been using 89 .it was 179 miles to paso robles
where i put in 11 gallons that works out to 16.27 miles /gallon.then from paso robles to thousand oaks.was an exact 208 miles and as soon as i got to the destination, i filled her up and couldnt believe my eyes so i topped her off all i could.after all the topping off it only took 10.526 gallons that is about 19.76 miles/gallon
but this is after all the topping off. i never top off.
and there is on possibility of error in this calculation.but even though i will be re calculating on my way back.
and ill update all of youll as soon as i get back monday.

Thumbs up it just may not be just the oil.

before i switched the oil i generally got about 18 highway.
but more than oil i feel it is sensible driving and keeping it below 3000 rpm most of the time.

Ok guys. I still haven't done much work on my ignition because other more important things have popped up. Like the famous wheel wobble at highway speeds so I got my OME damper which I STILL haven't installed but will be doing so Wednesday (tomorrow, May 10th, 2005). I got my Optima Red Top Battery which allows all the instrumentation to light up, and my RH headlight to light up completely. Before, only half of my instruments would light up and my Headlight was dim with a yellow tone ( while PIAA H.I.D. bulbs are in the Bezel ).

I also removed the running boards. For a second there, I thought the original owner had put a 1" lift on it because without the steps, I've come to realize how much groud-clearance there really is. I'm a short guy and I'm slowly becoming used to Climbing into my truck..lol. (I'm exagerating of course)

I started this thread because I had installed the K&N Filter. Its been about 2000 miles or so since then and the filter is still providing good mileage.

I recieved my Hi-Lift (48") today and I'm a little scared. It's heavier than I imagined and I'm now having second thoughts about mounting it on my spare tire. Would my hinges out back go kapoot if I was carryin the jack around back there for a month or so, while I get my roof rack?

Ibjettin, to answer your question from your thread (I sorta hijacked yours for a second there), Yes the leather headliner will be custom made. I too suffer from the droopy headliner.

On friday (May 13th), stock-sized (235/70 R16) BF-Goodrich All-Terrains will be replacing the Michelin XPCs (which I think are GREAT tires).

I have a camping/biking trip commin up Memorial weekend so I'm also looking for a 4-bike Hitch Rack, I have the 2" reciever so if you have one layin around please contact me.

After the trip, I'll be purchasing the Roof Rack from Get-Rhino (ad on this forum). I'll be getting the SD-styled Voyager rack. By means of my workplace, I'll be buying 4 Hella 4000s...2 Pencil Beams and 2 Eurobeams. And a worklight at back, plus the 2 LR Driving lights I'll be installing on my LR Brush Bar (If you have one of those as well, let me know)

Southdown USA Skid Plates for the tank, which was replaced during the recall, and plates for everything in the front.

As of now, that's all for the list. As you may have noticed there isn't a winch on that list. I would rather become an expert (like Bill Burke ) at winching with my Hi-Lift before I move into the more sophisticated stuff.

To sum this all up, the bug has bitten me, and now I'm addicted to my Land Rover and to wheelin.

K&N is sending me a filter as soon as they have them back in stock.. so I will have a full write up after a few weeks of observed driving.. They have worked great on all the cars I have put them into in the past.

Congratulations! You've added quite a bit of kit. A few comments:

Did you replace w/ rock sliders? If not you'll have no solid jack point. They make bumper adapters & so forth but off road you won't always have a choice of jacking positions. The rock sliders REALLY help you off road as well as provide solid jack point. Probably 1st piece of equipment. Even w/ stock front bumper,,,you'll take a rock w/ the tire on an angle, no problem... but you'll come down HARD on those rocker panels & bend 'em. The damage will cost more to repair than a set of rock slider.

The concern is not so much the hinges as the very weak tire carrier. If you're only doing it for a month, you should be ok. You would be better off saving the money you would spend on spare tire mount & just keep it in the back of the truck.

You say that now. Wait until you try to winch w/ a Hi-Lift

SCSL..LOL..I PRECISELY posted now that i saw you online because i REALLY wanted to hear what you had to say!

Serg, I know that dust has a better chance of getting through the KN than the stock element. But where I live the most dust you'll get is that of a dump-truck full of, well, dust!..lol

About the rocker panels, I've already cut out peices at the front, but kept the cutouts in place with pins ( so it looks like one whole, uninterrupted peice) and when in need to raise for frontal tire replacement, those will come off and I'll lift using the frame behind and above the rocker panels For rear tire replacements, I have the hitch so I'll be lifting through there, unless I shouldn't be lifting through there in which case I'd really like to know about. BUT, I will eventually get some sliders, not that I'll be doin much sliding on any boulders any time soon, but I would be prepared for when I do

Dude, thanks for the Feedback!

re: the front---Wow that's the first time I've heard of anything like that ! Post some pics as new stuff is cool! I don't know about putting the hi-lift in the tow hitch to lift entire rear end to change a tire,,,don't think that's a good idea (even if jack would fit in hitch) as you've got this whole big massive truck teetering on a skinny little jack & you're messing around w/ wrenches, unscrewing or tightening lug nuts, and shifting weight around removing tires. If I understand what you are saying correctly, I would STRONGLY advise against this from a safety perspective. But if you are running stock tires your factory jack should work for changing tires.

Dang good point! about the rear, guess I'll make the same mods to the other ends of the rocker panels. About the stock jack, i actually bought the Hi-Lift to replace it... 1) it sucks (just the one i own)... 2) Hi lift was wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper and the 2 that i was bidding for on eBay quickly went passed my spending limit the last couple hours. But dang thanks for bringin that up. I guess I can do the Hitch-Lift if i carry my jackstands around.

Hey Gents,

great info rolling on this thread.

One question, Which K&N air filter did you use?
The stock size k&n that fits in your air filter box or the aftermarket style one shaped like a large cone?

I have the stock shaped one and I dont see much of a difference.
I also hate cleaning it because if it has too much oil or didnt dry enough before you put it in your o2 sensor can start shooting off codes forcing you to have them cleared.

This on my 2000 Disco

I have the stock size K&N. Too much oil can cause a host of problems. How often are you cleaning it? They don't need to be cleaned all that often,,depending on how much you drive off- vs. on-road. If you are looking for better performance, I would suggest an upgraded exhaust. I put an NRP exhaust on mine (didn't want the Borla "Harley" sound on the trails) and noticed a HUGE increase in performance,,,and that's running 33's. I would imagine performance on stock vehicle would be huge.
