More Disco Electrical Problems...

last night while driving my 98 disco the dash abs, srs, check engine lite, etc. came on (gradually from one to the next).
then i heard what sounded like thumping in the rear end.
i kept driving and the headlamps began to gradually dim.
then i began to lose power. could barely make it up a small hill.
i barely "limped" home.

today, it starts fine. the dash lights are gone. however, when i turn all my electrical accessories on (lights, radio, air cond., etc), the lights begin to dim. if i turn on my blinker, every lite dims in unison with the "blink".
i'm assuming that if i drove with my lights on all day and night, the battery will eventually die because it isn't getting re-charged and that is why everything malfunctioned last night. but i don't know for sure.

that said...
- is it the alternator?
- the regulator?
- or is it an electrical "short" that only the dealer can find?
- or something else?

any thoughts?

I checked the voltage.
It's the alternator...
When there's no battery (not being charged), nothing works properly.
The engine eventually fails.
