I'm planning to get both. I'm going to get the steering protector first, since the axle housing is stronger than the steering components petruding out front. Protect the steering components first and the axle later.

Dudes... you got it all wrong man... unless you are doing some pretty gnarly shit, that stuff will just add weight man... get out there are drive man... experience offroading and determine your skill level and grow from there man... unless you are doing a 7 or above (on a scale of 1 - 10), that protection shit just adds weight, you won't need it. This is where your driving skills come into play man...

Haha, true! I had recently been deciding on these and I know I'll be needing some steering protction for sure. Exiting mudholes back onto hard land can cause some damage. I've banged up "El Capitan" damn hard before while doing exactly this, somehow there is no damage but noticable scrapes on the rods. The axle plate was only something I'd be using for my trip next year. A fuel tank plate would go on way before an axle plate would.
