Default New guy tire and lift question

Hello,
I've been looking for a good informative site to join and this looks like the one. I've been reading up on the tire and lift combinations and wanted to see what everyone thinks about my situation. I have had a couple 4wheel drive vehicles in the past and both were lifted. One had 30x9.5 (Cherokee w/3" lift) and the other had 33x12.5 (4Runner w/4.5" lift). I just had an OME set of shocks, springs and steering dampener put on my 97 Discovery. I am very happy with the ride and handling though the steering is giving me some trouble. I got BFG T/A KOs put on (size 265/75R16) and they rub the control arms (I know I can adjust the stoppers). They look big, but that's what the guy at 4wheel parts had in stock and he said he would fit test them for me. They feel pretty good around town, but on the highway I feel like I've lost some significant power and the steering gets very touchy (responds with the slightest movement from the driver, and feels over assisted).
This is the major thing... I am moving from Charlotte, NC to Flagstaff, AZ in a couple days and I am towing a uhaul. I have no intention to cut the vehicle at this point and would like to maintain close to stock steering radius, along with ample power and gas mileage (as close as possible with a bit larger tire). I am going to call 4wheel parts tomorrow and ask for a smaller size (only put 70 miles on the current set). What should I go with.
Sorry it's been a long winded first question... I really could use the advice.
Thanks a lot,
Vince

I would go with the 245/75/16 it is slightly smaller and will still be over 30inches . I 2 have a OME 2.5 lift and my 96 Disco can feel a little wobbley if at 55 mph or above. as far as steering the Disco might need a alignment Also if your steering damper is behind the front axle I would buy the relocation kit ASAP because if you go wheeling you might mess it up. Welcome man!

vnsherry, I also live in Charlotte. Mine is the 95 disco, blue, with 3" lift and trxus m/t's and rugby/nra/W for president stickers on it. Since you'll be towing for some distance you might want a D load tire. As for size, If you have the 265's on there now, I think there are a few 245's and 255's that come in D. I'm not a tire expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt, talk to a real tire guy as well as with 4 wheel parts about what will be the best fit for you.

Go with the 245/75/16's, they look good on, won't hurt your mileage as much, a little better power.
If you want to keep your power and mileage up, make sure you run premium gas and go buy a couple of bottles of SeaFoam gas additive, put one in as you leave and one 2 tanks later.
Have a good trip.

Default Thanks a lot

Hey Guys,
Thanks a lot for the help. I took it back to 4wheel parts this morning and explained the situation. I went with the 245/75R16 BFG T/A... They were very cool about it and are swapping them out Wednesday. Thanks again for the help. I've come to the right place.
