Default New Problem?

Driving down the road shifting into 2nd. In between first and second the clutch cable gives (no resistance or feedback) and it won't shift into any gears. i pump furiously because am in the middle of traffic and it all of a sudden comes back and shifts into gears. Happened once again later on in the day. Now when I start from a dead stop there is a clank sound when letting of the clutch. Is this something to do with the cable or clutch itself?

Are you sure you have a clutch cable?

You don't have a clutch cable, it is a hydralic clutch with a slave.
What year is your truck and how many miles on it? Sounds like it is time for a clutch replacement.

Open up the hood and check the clutch master cylinder for fluid. It is quite possible the fluid level is very low or completely empty. If so, you'll probably have to rebuild the clutch master cylinder - but first, if the level is low, just refill the unit and see is you can change gears again.. One detail - the truck has to be at a 'tail up' angle to get all the air out. The easiest way is to find a steep hill and park nose down. Then pump the clutch about 50 times.
If this improves the situation, then flush/bleed the clutch hydraulic system with fresh Dot 4 brake fluid.
Best of luck.

thanks for all the responses guys. It is a 97 with 78k on it. Had no idea there was no clutch cable cause I haven't actually loooked underneath. Have only had the problem that one time. Will try all the suggested and get back.

If the slave is leaking, you may find you have fluid on your disc and then a clutch replacement will be in order.
