Default New Trouble Codes

So the p1179 didn't come back, but got a whole slew of new ones.

p0420
p0430
p1313
p1314

They all reffer to the catalyst system. So what does this mean? Did I screw up my cats with the last code? ANy help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

bummer. I just replaced them at the beginning of last year. Would it have just been the p1179 that killed them? What's the 1313 and 1314 mean? It's the first time I've gotten those, as well as the 0420 and 0430. Are they a direct consequense of the cats being bad? I don't want to replace the cats, to just have to do it again in another year.

Thanks,
Ryan

Its a misfire that causes catalyst damage. So yes it is possible. You could have some other problem that existed that killed it.

Hard to say. Were they new when you put them on.

Default another possibility

Ryan Roudy,
One thing I saw might have some relevance for your situation. I have another vehicle that was throwing a p0420 and it turned out that the exhaust manifold was cracked. Seems like the exhaust leak freaked out the sensor. I'm not saying this is the solution, but it might pay to revisit your Y pipe connections, make sure there are no leaks...at least that won't cost anything...

I'm new to this whole OBDII thing, but is it possible that these codes were pending codes in the system and had been there for a while, only bubbling to the top once you cleared out the other code?

went out and checked the exhaust. no visible cracks, and no black marks around where the seperate pieces mate up. I was looking through receipts and the cats were purchased in april. I don't know if they have any kind of warrantee at all, but worth checking into.

Check for an exhaust leak, but I'm w/ beezel........0420 & 0430 is likely going to mean time to replace the cats

WOW.....less than a year?!

If they are dead you really need to make a concerted effort to track down the culprit – as if you haven’t picked up on that.

Have you checked for leaky injectors? One way to check is to push the throttle to the floor & hold it while starting the engine.........if the exhaust smokes more than normal, you likely have a stuck injector.

Diagnosis can be as much an art as a science…..codes give a starting point, but once you nail down the problem, you find it can be brought on by any number or causes (or combinations).
