Default Newbee in Saudi...engine surging

Third owner of a 91 Disco, 285,000 kilo or 177,000 miles on it, problem is that it surges when hot. Runs great in morning but afternoon and evenings it begins to surge. The first thing I did was drive to the nearest Range Rover dealer (60 miles north in the desert!) and purchased some Bosch plugs and distributor wires, replaced those. Still surged. So took it to a recommended British mechanic and he changed out the fuel filter, did a tune up...still surged. Took it back and he tore into the engine and did a complete clean-up of the fuel injectors. Runs good for a while then it returned. So, have not changed out the Fuel Pump Relay switch or VSS but plan to. The Range Rover mechanic says sometimes the coil overheats and/or altenator could be the issue but hard to believe.

Any ideas would be deeply appreciated.

the IAC valve is a possible culprit. Hi neighbor, I'm stuck in your neck of the woods for the next year.
