I first want to start out and say thank you to you all. I have had my 1995 disco 1 for over 2 years and use this daily for work. What a great truck.
3 months ago my radio starting flashing a anti theft light. I put the code back in and it locked me out. I disconected the battery and left it sit, still the light remained and would not let me put in the code. After a few days of this the light went out and no power to the radio and to the cigerett lighter. I checked the fuse on the radio, cigerette lighter and all other fuses, yes there are a lot of them. Still no power to the radio. DOA I bought a radio off ebay, while pulling the old radio out the radio starting to flash a code, I put the code in and it worked for 1 day, then same thing, flashing anti theft and then no power. I pulled the old radio, put in the new radio and punched in the code. Every things good for 2 days this time, same thing. I checked all the wires in the back of the radio and plugs and every things looks good. If any one can tell me what wires to shoot for power with a meter and what wire or wires are the ground that would help. I used a meeter on the cigerett lighter and no power yet the fuse is good. Thanks |

I would check the voltages on the radio connector. The backup voltage is dropping out as though you removed the radio. Check the fuse and check the connector.
I have the Pioneer radio and I am waiting until it dies before I drop a new radio in. Here is the URL for the pinouts: http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_LandRover1.htm Check out C, G, and H.

I really need to know what wire is switched 12 volt, what wire is constent hot to provide memory 12 volt, and what wire is the ground. I have a meter and after changing the radio and having the same thing I have to belive it is the wiring, all the fuses are good and have 12 volts on both sides on all fueses.
Thanks John |

Tomkat: One way to find out which wire is the switched 12 volt and which is the constant 12 volt (for memory?) is to look at the back of the fuse box and see the colours of wire coming from the specific fuse. This is usually NOT practical as the fuse box has so many wires attached that it is not very movable. The more practical approach is to test each wire in the plug that hooks up to the radio. You'll probably need a 2 foot length of wire with the smallest alligator clips or a way to jam your meter lead up against each electrical prong in the connector. Be very careful not to bugger up these delicate contacts or they won't ever work properly. If all else fails, you can take it to the dealer and pay the $105 per hour to solve this problem! Best of luck. One final point - in many circuits, the radio is grounded to the dash by the screws holding it in - I have no idea how the ground is done in LRs. Best of luck.

Thanks for your help, will try see what I can find out this weekend.
My singning has not improved so I guess its time to dig into the dash wiring. I think it is a ground as the radio and lighter are both dead at the same time. I use the lighter to charge my cell phone and the ipod. I have jumper plugs and am farly checked out on AC/ and DC power I just wanted to take the path of least resisdence and see if any one knew what the wire colors were. I like the factory radio and the options it has as I live a board a 54' boat and use the weather function, seams better then the news to plan a trip with. Thanks again and will post what I come up with. |

C is constant 12v no switch. G is body ground. H is switched 12v connected to the ACC on the ignition switch.

This is what I was looking for, thank you for sending this along. I spent the weekend out on the boat and not under the dash as the sun was up. I will post the results when I get the meter out and shoot for power and grounds.
Thanks again for posting this info. John |

I just want to say thank you again,
I look though this site every week, I took the meter up to the Disco today, I had no switch power, power out of the fuse was good but no power to the radio on the switch side, I ran a new wire and everything works as it should, total cost was under $5.00. Not sure were the wire was open but was easier to just run a new wire. This info is great for those putting in a new receiver deck or adding components to there factory deck. John |
